You probably know that Global-Leap has undergone a significant change the year. April 2006 the project introduced subscription for UK schools. This based on the e-learning credits that the UK Government Education Department (DfES) gives to UK schools for their ICT. This did two things, it generated a nominal amount of revenue and it cleared out from the network all the schools who had left their contact details on the website. Some were so old and out of date that they served no useful purpose.
"Across the pond" we have hundreds of schools using the not-for-profit association which came into effect in October. You may have noticed the change from global-leap.com to global-leap.org.
I’ve thought and thought about how the association can benefit from the increasing North American membership.

This is the plan:

• Schools must update their details – Please check you school or district details are as accurate as possible. You school ID can be used to go into the website to check and update the details. If you don’t know your school/distrct Global-Leap ID please email: mikeg@global-leap.org. Remember incorrect information can waste your time but also the time of colleagues looking for a partner schools.
• Global-Leap will continue to make a nominal charge for activities from the studio here in London.
• Global-Leap/Videoconferencing in the Classroom Teachers Association is a not-for-profit organistation and schools can donate or present an honourarium to support the programme.
  

In Summary:
North American subscription will not be introduced in the foreseeable future.
Schools must update their school or district details.
Schools have an opportunity to contribute.
